About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team at School District #23 (Central Okanagan). As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating language expression and comprehension for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret American Sign Language (ASL) in educational settings to ensure equal access to education for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Tutor students in ASL to support their language development and academic success.
  • Adapt teaching materials and resources to meet the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Compile and update student records to ensure accurate and timely information.
  • Monitor student behavior and provide support as needed.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of Grade 12.
  • Graduate of an accredited interpreter training program.
  • Previous experience interpreting in an educational setting is an asset.
  • At least six (6) months experience working with Deaf students with language delays.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of the IEP (Individual Education Program) team.
