Position Overview:

The Nuclear Medicine PET Technologist plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality imaging services. This position involves the execution of clinical PET/CT scans, which includes the selection of appropriate imaging protocols, patient positioning, image acquisition, and data reconstruction. The final image data set is presented to the supervising physician for interpretation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive clinical PET/CT scanning, ensuring adherence to established imaging protocols.
  • Prepare patients for scanning procedures by thoroughly explaining the process, addressing any questions, and securing informed consent.
  • Perform essential technical tasks, including correlating clinical history with the examination, recording baseline vital signs, establishing venous access for radiotracer injection, and monitoring blood glucose levels prior to radiotracer administration.
  • Ensure patient safety throughout procedures by monitoring vital signs and observing for any signs of distress, with the ability to respond to emergencies in line with facility protocols.
  • Operate PET and CT imaging equipment in compliance with established standards and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Certification from the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) in Nuclear Medicine.
  • A minimum of three years of recent experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Completion of formal education in PET/CT, such as the CAMRT PET/CT certificate program or equivalent training and experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of nuclear medicine procedures, radiopharmacy, and radiation safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with PET/CT cameras and related software applications.
  • Understanding of research methodologies and processes.
  • Strong patient care skills applicable to diverse age groups.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency with clinical information systems and related equipment.
