We are seeking a highly skilled PET Technologist to join our team at BC Cancer. As a PET Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality imaging and therapy services to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Imaging and Therapy Services: Perform PET/CT imaging and related technical and patient care duties within the Regional Functional Imaging department.
- Patient Care: Provide patient radiotracer injections, perform general patient care duties such as taking vital signs, starting IV lines and checking blood glucose levels.
- Equipment Management: Help to maintain and organize various procedural documents, monitor equipment performance by reporting any operating deficiencies, and perform routine equipment quality control procedures.
- Technical Functions: Perform other technical functions as required in a highly detail-oriented department.
- Perform Clinical PET/CT Scanning: Select the appropriate imaging protocol, position the patient for the scan, perform image acquisition and data reconstruction, and present the final image data set to the PET physician for interpretation.
- Prepare Patients for Scanning: Explain the entire procedure to the patient, answer any pertinent questions from the patient, and obtain informed consent from the patient prior to starting.
- Perform Technical Work: Correlate clinical history with examination to be performed, take and record baseline vital signs, establish venous access for radiotracer injection, check and record blood glucose levels prior to injecting radiotracer, and administer the appropriate radiotracer.
- Monitor Patient Safety: Obtain blood pressure readings and directly observe patients for any physical signs of distress. Respond to emergent situations in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
- Operate PET and Associated CT Computers and Equipment: Operate PET and associated CT computers and equipment as needed in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Certification and Experience: Certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) in Nuclear Medicine and three (3) years of recent experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
- Education and Training: Completion of formal PET/CT education such as the CAMRT PET/CT certificate program or the equivalence of training and/or experience.
- Skills and Knowledge: Nuclear Medicine procedures, radiopharmacy dispensing, and radiation safety; PET/CT cameras and related computer applications; research processes and methodology; high level of patient care skills for patients of all ages; and effective communication skills.
