Nuclear Medicine PET Technologist

Join the BC Cancer team as a Nuclear Medicine PET Technologist, where you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient care through advanced imaging techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute comprehensive clinical PET/CT imaging procedures, including the selection of appropriate protocols, patient positioning, image acquisition, and data reconstruction, ensuring high-quality images for physician interpretation.
  • Prepare patients for scanning by thoroughly explaining the procedure, addressing any questions, and securing informed consent prior to the examination.
  • Conduct technical tasks such as correlating clinical history with the imaging procedure, recording vital signs, establishing venous access for radiotracer injection, and monitoring blood glucose levels before administering radiotracers.
  • Ensure patient safety throughout the imaging process by monitoring vital signs and being vigilant for any signs of distress, ready to respond to emergencies as per established protocols.
  • Operate PET and CT imaging equipment in compliance with established standards and practices.

Qualifications

  • Certification from the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) in Nuclear Medicine.
  • A minimum of three years of recent experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Completion of a formal PET/CT education program, such as the CAMRT PET/CT certificate program or equivalent training and experience.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficient understanding of Nuclear Medicine procedures, radiopharmacy, and radiation safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with PET/CT imaging systems and associated software applications.
  • Insight into research methodologies and processes.
  • Strong patient care abilities across diverse age groups.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of relevant clinical information systems and equipment.
