Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Intellectual Property Services, the Intellectual Property Specialist will take charge of drafting and managing patent applications, conducting patent searches, and aiding in the preparation of patentability assessments.

Position Duties:

  • Collaborating with Corporate and/or Business Units on proprietary discoveries and disclosures.
  • Transforming proprietary information and disclosures into patent submissions.
  • Executing patentability assessments.
  • Composing provisional and complete patent applications; and managing patent applications including drafting responses and coordinating with external patent counsel.
  • Overseeing international extension submissions.
  • Offering assistance and support with oppositions, due diligence, acquisitions, and litigation matters while advising on IP-related issues.
  • Conducting freedom-to-operate assessments concerning third-party patent rights.
  • Supporting the daily management of Lallemand's patent portfolios, including the payment of annuities.
  • Performing additional duties as required.

Required Technical Skills

  • M.Sc. or PhD in a scientific discipline, preferably in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Biology.
  • Relevant experience in the field of intellectual property with a focus on developing patent portfolios.
  • Experience in patent prosecution.
  • Familiarity with patent databases.

  • Proven capability to establish and implement standards ensuring the procurement of high-quality and business-relevant patents.
  • Attention to detail and ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Bilingual proficiency (oral & written).
