Primary Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Intellectual Property Services, the Intellectual Property Specialist will oversee the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, conduct comprehensive patent searches, and assist in the preparation of patentability assessments.

Key Duties:

Collaborating with Corporate and/or Business Units on proprietary findings and disclosures. Transforming proprietary information and disclosures into patent applications. Executing patentability assessments. Composing provisional and complete patent applications; managing the prosecution of patent applications, including drafting responses and coordinating with external patent counsel. Facilitating international extension filings. Offering assistance and support in opposition matters, due diligence, acquisitions, and litigation issues while advising on intellectual property-related concerns. Conducting freedom-to-operate assessments regarding third-party patent rights. Supporting the daily management of Lallemand's patent portfolios, including the payment of annuities. Performing additional duties as required.

Required Technical Skills

Essential:

M.Sc. or PhD in a scientific discipline, preferably in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Biology. Relevant experience in the field of intellectual property, particularly in developing patent portfolios. Proven experience in patent prosecution. Familiarity with patent databases.

Required Personal Attributes

Essential:

Proficient writing skills. Excellent organizational, project management, and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to establish and implement standards that ensure the procurement of high-quality and relevant patents. Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively within a team. Clear communication skills, both written and verbal. Bilingual proficiency (oral & written).
