Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health as an Advanced Radiological Technologist specializing in Computed Tomography and Nuclear Medicine.

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Radiological Technologist to become part of the Computed Tomography unit. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct computed tomography (CT) examinations and diagnostic/therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures in alignment with departmental protocols while ensuring adherence to safe radiation protection standards.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Receiving and processing requisitions,
    • Inputting pertinent data into the Radiology information system,
    • Preparing examination trays and patients for specific procedures, including the preparation, dispensing, and administration of radiopharmaceuticals,
    • Operating CT imaging and/or nuclear medicine apparatus, including the processing and archiving of collected data.
  • Observe and monitor patients throughout procedures, ensuring equipment functionality and performing routine quality control assessments on imaging devices.
  • Utilize appropriate detection equipment to monitor the area and dispose of radioactive materials and/or contaminated items according to established protocols.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Certification with the CAMRT (Nuclear Medicine).
  • Completion of a recognized advanced specialty CT program and a minimum of one (1) year of recent, relevant experience in CT and nuclear medicine, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Completion of an Intravenous Therapy training course, as required by site practice.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BCLS) level.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proven understanding of the standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging professionals established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional organizations.
  • Familiarity with organizational policies, procedures, and standards of care, including the practice of safe work procedures with applicable modality equipment.
  • Ability to perform radioisotope examinations in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Regulations.
  • Understanding of current General Radiography, Nuclear Medicine, and CT theory and practices within a patient-centered care model.
  • Knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with radiology equipment.
  • Familiarity with research processes and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in PACS/Radiology Information Systems, including digital imaging, image archiving, and retrieval.
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) to interact with patients, families, colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Capability to plan and prioritize workload in collaboration with team members.
  • Demonstrated skill in CT/Nuclear Medicine techniques and the use of relevant equipment and supplies.
  • Competence in CPR techniques.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including applicable software applications.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the duties of the position.

Start dates may be adjusted based on operational needs.

Work hours, including days off and work areas, may be subject to change in accordance with operational requirements and the provisions of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful candidates may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
