About the Role

Loyalist College is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Writing Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness department, you will be responsible for providing high-level writing and editorial support for a wide range of materials, including speeches, statements, letters, briefing notes, proposals, reports, and internal communiqués.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in content creation, editing, and storytelling, with a sound knowledge of corporate communications and the ability to produce quality written material for a variety of audiences. You will be responsible for managing multiple projects and deliverables, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and prioritizing tasks effectively to meet established timelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and write a range of engaging and informative college materials, including internal communiqués, emails, letters, reports, briefing notes, speeches, and award nominations.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather information and translate into compelling content.
  • Proofread and edit drafted content to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established style guide principles.
  • Provide feedback on draft documents to help improve clarity, readability, and flow.
  • Develop exemplars and best practices to inform internal communications standards and promote a consistent writing style.
  • Provide guidance to internal communicators on best writing practices and share resources to ensure adherence to established style guides and writing conventions.
  • Undertake ongoing research and environmental scans to ensure accuracy and identify emerging best practices in corporate communications.
Requirements
  • Completion of a four-year degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional writing and editing experience for various platforms, preferably in a postsecondary education or public sector setting.
  • Proven track record of producing high-quality written content for diverse audiences and experience developing and supporting internal corporate communications.
  • A diverse portfolio of writing and editing samples showcasing a range of content types.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Press (CP) Style and other editorial guidelines.
  • Knowledge of plain language principles that support readability and accessibility as well as inclusive language practices that are both culturally sensitive and equity focused.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and working under tight deadlines.
