Job Summary

The Government of Northwest Territories is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Director of Community Service. This position is responsible for directing the preparation and publication of Government Bills, Private Members Bills, and regulations, as well as providing advice on legislation and statutory interpretation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the preparation and publication of Government Bills, Private Members Bills, and regulations
  • Provide advice on legislation and statutory interpretation
  • Oversee the consolidation of legislation
  • Manage a team of legislative counsel and legal translators
  • Coordinate with departments and public agencies to prepare statutory instruments and appointments

Requirements

  • Common law degree
  • Membership in a Canadian law society
  • Five (5) or more years of experience practicing law, with experience as a dedicated legislative counsel and managing lawyers as an asset
