Mental Health Liaison Nurse Position

Job Summary:
The Mental Health Liaison Nurse is a key member of the Emergency Department team, responsible for providing mental health consultation and support to patients, families, and healthcare staff. This role requires a strong understanding of mental health principles, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care.
Key Responsibilities:- Assess and consult with patients presenting to the Emergency Department with mental health concerns and/or substance abuse.
- Collaborate with the Emergency Department healthcare team to develop treatment plans and implement interventions.
- Provide mental health support and education to patients and families, including information on resources and services.
- Liaise with community and hospital services to access resources and advocate for patients and families.
- Participate in the development of mental health policies, guidelines, and forms for use in the Emergency Department and inpatient units.
- Support and act as a preceptor for students in the clinical environment.
- Baccalaureate degree in Psychiatric Nursing or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with related experience.
- Active practicing licensure with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Manitoba.
- A minimum of three years of relevant clinical experience in mental health.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Training.
- Current certification in ASIST, NVCI, and Co-Occurring Disorder training.
- Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle.
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs and Internet applications.
- Evidence of professional development and activity in professional associations.
- Knowledge of adult learning and ability to teach individuals and groups effectively.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented philosophy of mental health.
- Excellent counselling and conflict resolution skills.
Working Conditions:
The Mental Health Liaison Nurse will work in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment, providing support to patients, families, and healthcare staff. The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
