Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

Overview:

The Mental Health Liaison Nurse is primarily responsible for:

  • Assessment, consultation, and triage of complex mental health presentations, with a focus on the Emergency Department.
  • Conducting initial assessments for patients presenting with mental health concerns or substance abuse in the Emergency Department.
  • Collaborating with the healthcare team to develop treatment, discharge, and transfer plans.
  • Implementing recovery-oriented practices and conducting follow-up calls to assess intervention effectiveness.
  • Processing referrals to community resources and obtaining collateral information from various sources.
  • Providing support to patients and families during stressful situations and crises.
  • Demonstrating competency in mental health crisis intervention and psychosocial assessment.
  • Liaising with community and hospital services to advocate for patients and families.
  • Participating in the development of mental health policies and guidelines.
  • Maintaining regular communication with management and participating in relevant meetings.
