Position: Vice President of Taxation in Canada

Location: Toronto, Canada

Contract Type: Permanent

Business Area: Finance

Role Overview:
In this pivotal role, you will oversee all facets of local tax compliance for our Canadian entities. This encompasses direct corporate taxation, income tax, and indirect tax responsibilities. You will frequently liaise with tax authorities and external consultants to address complex tax matters. As part of a compact team, we seek a proactive individual who can prioritize effectively, manage tasks efficiently, and gradually assume leadership duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation and presentation of precise and timely financial statements and accounting records in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Assist in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks, providing reports to senior management.
  • Establish and maintain a robust internal control system to protect assets, prevent fraudulent reporting, and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
  • Develop and implement contemporary financial policies and procedures to ensure consistent and effective financial practices across the organization.
  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of financial systems and software, collaborating with IT to integrate these systems with other enterprise applications.
  • Prepare and submit statutory and regulatory reports to authorities, and support other departments in their report preparation and review.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory bodies during audits and examinations.

  • Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management, on functional and cross-functional impacts.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through thorough assessments, supporting the control and governance agenda.
  • Exhibit leadership and accountability in managing risks and enhancing controls related to your team's operations.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of organizational functions to contribute to the business's objectives.
  • Collaborate with various departments to stay aligned with business activities and strategies.
  • Develop solutions through sophisticated analytical thinking, comparing and selecting complex alternatives.
  • Incorporate extensive research outcomes into problem-solving processes.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve key business objectives.
