Position Overview
The Vice President of Taxation will oversee the Company's tax planning, compliance, and accounting functions, with a particular emphasis on commodity tax. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in all business decisions that affect income and commodity tax, including strategic initiatives such as mergers, acquisitions, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor high-performing teams in income and commodity tax, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Optimize resource allocation to meet business objectives, identifying opportunities to enhance tax process efficiency through technology.
- Provide strategic tax insights and recommendations that align with corporate growth initiatives, particularly regarding employee taxation matters.
- Communicate tax strategies and positions effectively to senior executives.
- Proactively identify tax-related issues and trends that could impact business operations, working to mitigate risks.
- Ensure compliance in both income and commodity tax areas.
- Manage transfer pricing processes, quarterly income tax reporting, and the preparation of necessary tax returns.
- Oversee relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
- Lead all tax audits and assess potential exposures.
- Research and implement strategies for tax savings.
- Collaborate with the Treasury team to develop tax-efficient financing structures.
- Supervise overall tax processes, including month-end and quarter-end accounting and related disclosures.
- Assist with special projects as required.

Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of developing effective teams.
- Completion of CPA Canada In Depth Tax Course or a Master's in Taxation.
- Experience in Canadian income tax with a minimum of 10 years, including 5 years in public accounting.
- Background in public companies, particularly those with diverse business operations, is preferred.
- Expertise in Canadian income and commodity tax regulations.
- Strong understanding of U.S. and international tax frameworks.
- Effective communicator, comfortable leading through change and presenting to senior management.
- Proactive in seizing opportunities and taking initiative.
