About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to join our team as a Resettlement Assistance Program Counsellor. As a key member of our Newcomer Connections team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the successful settlement of government-assisted refugees (GARs) in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initial Needs Assessment: Conduct thorough needs assessments for GARs, identifying their requirements and developing personalized plans to support their integration into Canadian society.
  • Temporary Accommodations: Coordinate temporary accommodations for GARs, ensuring their safety and comfort during the transition period.
  • Orientation and Support: Provide comprehensive orientation on key aspects of life in Canada, including healthcare, banking, public transportation, education, and cultural norms.
  • Access to Services: Facilitate access to federal and provincial programs, such as health plans, SIN, and National Child Benefit.
  • Community Connections: Collaborate with the Settlement Trainer and community partners to connect GARs with long-term resources and services.
  • Permanent Accommodations: Coordinate permanent accommodations and support with furniture and household goods as needed.
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor and report on client progress through the iCARE database, ensuring accurate and timely records.
  • Program Improvement: Work with the RAP Supervisor to identify opportunities for program improvements and community engagement.
  • Community Outreach: Participate in public events and foster relationships with community groups to promote refugee support programs.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree, Community College diploma, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience working in a cross-cultural environment, preferably in settlement or refugee services.
  • Skills: Excellent communication skills, particularly when working with clients who have limited English proficiency. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of additional languages is an asset.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrated empathy and cultural sensitivity in working with diverse populations.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software (experience with iCARE is a plus).
