Position Overview

Stella's Circle is seeking a dedicated **Residential Counsellor** to provide essential support and guidance to individuals facing various personal challenges. This role is crucial in fostering a safe and nurturing environment for clients.

Work Conditions
  • Employment Type: Casual
  • Language of Work: English
  • Weekly Hours: 10 to 20 hours
  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience Required: 2 to 3 years
Work Environment
  • Focus on personal and social adjustment, including issues related to substance abuse and behavioral disorders.
  • Address socio-economic challenges such as housing, nutrition, and financial assistance.
  • Provide services tailored for pregnant teens and the homeless population.
Work Setting
  • Urban area with diverse community needs.
  • Engagement in clients' homes and various social service settings.
  • Collaboration with shelters and charitable organizations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and case histories.
  • Conduct administrative tasks and manage office activities.
  • Assess clients' needs and eligibility for services.
  • Facilitate life skills workshops and follow-up assessments.
  • Oversee housekeeping and food preparation activities.
  • Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
  • Supervise clients in group homes and half-way houses.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Coordinate with other social service agencies and healthcare providers.
  • Maintain program statistics for evaluation and research purposes.
  • Assist clients with special needs and accompany them to appointments.
Qualifications
  • Certificates in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Mental Health First Aid, Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), First Aid, and CPR.
Target Audience
  • Work with adolescents, culturally diverse groups, and individuals with mental health disabilities.
  • Engage with the street population and female clients.
Safety and Security
  • Completion of a criminal record check is mandatory.
Transportation Requirements
  • Possession of personal transportation is necessary.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment and client-focused approach.
  • Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated initiative and reliability.
