Job Summary

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is seeking a highly skilled Communications Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Corporate Communications department, you will provide strategic advice and support to our leadership and management team on all aspects of corporate communications, public engagement, and strategic policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan to engage with our communities and stakeholders.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations on communications activities, issues, and media coverage to inform our communications strategies.
  • Prepare annual reports and other communications materials in consultation with our departments and communities.
  • Provide strategic communications advice to our leadership and management team on a range of issues, including Band Council Resolutions, corporate activities, crisis and emergency situations, and organizational matters.
  • Coordinate responses to media inquiries and serve as our spokesperson as assigned, or assist other spokespersons to prepare for media interviews and prepare press releases.
  • Prepare and manage design production of brochures and other communications materials as required.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for proactive media coverage to promote our programs, initiatives, services, special events, and accomplishments.
  • Develop regular communications, including media releases, for our Emergency Control Group.
  • Develop speeches, presentations, and press releases to promote our initiatives and services.
  • Prepare briefing notes, taking points, and updates on specific communication issues.
  • Develop policies, standards, and strategies for social media, and prepare content.
  • Develop regular NEWS bulletins and publications to keep our communities informed about our programs, opportunities, events, and updates.
  • Develop strategic communication plans and calendars for our projects, programs, services, and issues management.
  • Review communication materials for compliance with our communication policies, procedures, and standards, including logo use and branding.
  • Support, coordinate, and/or implement community engagement initiatives.
  • Repair and maintain our database for the storage and retrieval of information on our communications activities and issues.
  • Lead program and policy evaluations to ensure consistency with our current priorities and strategic directions.
  • Research and develop engagement agreements and protocols with other local governments, as well as the Province, Federal, and First Nations governments.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related discipline.
  • A certificate in Local Government Administration is an asset.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in policy research, corporate communications planning and coordination, preferably in a government environment.
  • Formal training and experience in crisis or emergency communications.
  • Superior communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • A Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Understanding of the Cree language is an asset.
