Job Opportunity:

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Communications Specialist to join our team.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will provide strategic communications advice to the Chief & Council, Executive Director and senior staff on a range of issues including Band Council Resolutions and initiatives, corporate activities, crisis and emergency situations, and organizational matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a communications plan for the communities served;
  • Provide strategic communications advice to the Chief & Council, Executive Director and senior staff;
  • Coordinate responses to media inquiries and serve as the LLRIB spokesperson as assigned;
  • Prepare and manage design production of brochures as required;
  • Identify and implement opportunities for proactive media coverage to promote LLRIB programs, initiatives, services, special events and accomplishments;
  • Develop regular communications including media releases for the LLRIB Emergency Control Group;
  • Develop speeches, presentations and press releases;
  • Prepare briefing notes, taking points and updates on specific communication issues;
  • Develop policies, standards and strategies for social media, and prepares content;
  • Develop regular NEWS bulletin, and publications regarding LLRIB programs, opportunities, events and community updates;
  • Develop strategic communication plans and calendars for LLRIB projects, programs, services and/or issues management;
  • Reviews communication materials for compliance with communication policies, procedures and standards, including logo use and branding;
  • Supports, coordinates and/or implement community engagement initiatives;
  • Repairs and maintenance database for the storage and retrieval of information on LLRIB and communication activities and issues;
  • Leads program and policy evaluations to ensure consistency with the LLRIB's current priorities and strategic directions;
  • Researches and develops engagement agreements and protocols with other local governments, as well as the Province, Federal and First Nations governments.

Requirements:

  • A university degree in Communications, Public Relations or related discipline;
  • A certificate in Local Government Administration is an asset;
  • A minimum of five years of experience in policy research, corporate communications planning & coordination, preferably in a government environment;
  • Formal training and experience in crisis or emergency communications;
  • Superior communication skills;
  • Sound Judgement and decision-making abilities;
  • Class 5 Driver's License;
  • Understanding of Cree language shall be an asset.
