Communications Officer
The Corporate Communications Officer is responsible for providing strategic guidance and support to the Chief and Senior Management Team in the realms of corporate communications, public engagement, and policy development. Key responsibilities include managing all communication and networking efforts, acting as a liaison between LLRIB leadership, management, communities, and band members.
Key Responsibilities:
• Formulate a comprehensive communications strategy for the communities served;
• Analyze communication activities, issues, and media coverage to suggest modifications to communication plans and strategies.
• Collaborate with all LLRIB Departments and Communities to prepare an Annual Report;
• Offer strategic communications counsel to the Chief & Council, Executive Director, and senior staff on various matters, including Band Council Resolutions, corporate initiatives, crisis management, and organizational issues.
• Manage media inquiries and serve as the spokesperson for LLRIB as needed, assisting other spokespersons in preparing for interviews and drafting press releases.
• Oversee the design and production of promotional materials as required.
• Identify and leverage opportunities for proactive media coverage to highlight LLRIB programs, initiatives, services, special events, and achievements.
• Create regular communications, including media releases for the LLRIB Emergency Control Group.
• Draft speeches, presentations, and press releases.
• Prepare briefing notes, talking points, and updates on specific communication matters.
• Develop policies, standards, and strategies for social media engagement, and curate content.
• Produce regular newsletters and publications regarding LLRIB programs, opportunities, events, and community updates.
• Create strategic communication plans and timelines for LLRIB projects, programs, services, and issue management.
• Review communication materials to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and standards, including branding and logo usage.
• Support, coordinate, and implement community engagement initiatives.
• Maintain a database for the organization and retrieval of information related to LLRIB and communication activities.
• Lead evaluations of programs and policies to ensure alignment with LLRIB's strategic priorities.
• Research and establish engagement agreements and protocols with local governments, as well as provincial, federal, and First Nations governments.
Qualifications:
• A university degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
• A certificate in Local Government Administration is considered an asset.
• At least five years of experience in policy research, corporate communications planning, and coordination, preferably within a governmental context.
• Formal training and experience in crisis or emergency communications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Strong judgment and decision-making capabilities.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
• Proficiency in the Cree language is an asset.
