Position Overview

The Occupational Therapist operates under the guidance of the Health Services Manager, collaborating closely with clients, their families, and caregivers to enhance and sustain optimal functioning in daily activities such as self-care, work, and leisure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments and develop personalized treatment plans aimed at improving client outcomes.
  • Manage a diverse caseload effectively, utilizing clinical judgment to prioritize daily tasks.
  • Provide education and support to clients and their families, ensuring they are well-informed about treatment processes.
  • Engage in both individual and group therapy sessions, applying various therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and motivational interviewing.
  • Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to the overall care strategy for clients.
  • Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants and participate in the clinical education of students in the field.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized Occupational Therapy program.
  • Current licensure with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Certification in CPR is mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
  • Proven counseling skills and experience in conducting therapeutic sessions.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and maintain organized work practices.
  • Familiarity with community resources is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential for effective collaboration.

Work Environment

This position is a permanent full-time role, requiring a commitment of 75 hours biweekly. The compensation is competitive, reflecting the expertise and dedication required for this role.
