Position Overview

The Occupational Therapist plays a crucial role within the healthcare framework, operating under the guidance of the Health Services Manager. This professional collaborates closely with clients, their families, and caregivers to enhance, restore, or maintain optimal functioning in self-care, productivity, and leisure activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop tailored treatment plans.
  • Provide direct therapy services in various settings, including hospitals and community environments.
  • Manage a diverse caseload while employing clinical judgment to prioritize patient needs effectively.
  • Facilitate education and support for clients and their families regarding therapeutic processes.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teamwork, contributing to both occupational therapy and broader healthcare initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor Occupational Therapy Assistants and students in the field.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized School of Occupational Therapy.
  • Current licensure with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Certification in CPR is required.
  • Proficiency in understanding the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
  • Strong counseling skills and experience in both individual and group therapy settings.
  • Familiarity with various therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of local community resources is advantageous.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in conducting functional assessments and report writing is preferred.
  • Competency in additional languages is a plus, with French being preferred.

Work Schedule

  • This is a permanent full-time position requiring 75 hours biweekly.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this position is $42.89. Successful candidates may also be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, along with a defined benefit pension plan.
