Power Engineering Specialist

Matchtech North America is seeking a dedicated Electrical Engineer to join our team in a permanent role.

In this position, you will report to the Engineering Superintendent and/or the Superintendent of Protection, Control, and Planning. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the planning, construction, organization, budgeting, management, and maintenance of engineering initiatives aimed at enhancing the reliability of the transmission and distribution network.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging in the design, installation, and integration of intelligent electronic devices, telecommunications systems, and SCADA, ensuring compliance with established industry standards.
  • Contributing to protection coordination, control, and commissioning processes within the transmission and distribution sectors.
  • Delivering engineering design and construction for new substations or upgrades to existing facilities, leveraging strong project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Providing technical asset support to the Technical Services maintenance team.
  • Coordinating and supervising projects, preparing cost estimates, managing contracts, and overseeing design and implementation phases.
  • Participating in distribution planning efforts.
  • Assisting in the development of client standards.
  • Engaging in the integration of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and be eligible for registration with Engineers PEI. A valid driver's license and a strong driving record are also required.

  • Successful candidates will demonstrate skills and knowledge in the following areas:
  • Strong organizational skills and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying plans, directives, and objectives.
  • Proficiency in standard industry design and analysis software.
  • Experience with CAD systems and adherence to drawing standards.
  • Competence in using computer programs such as spreadsheets, word processors, and presentation software.
