Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends

Educational Requirement: 2-year College Diploma

Overview:
The Merchandise Marketing Specialist is tasked with enhancing the identity of McMaster University through the strategic marketing of branded products. This role ensures that all promotional items comply with University standards while delivering competitive pricing, superior product quality, and exceptional customer service. The specialist will manage the order fulfillment process for merchandise sold through the Campus Store.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare quotes in alignment with departmental pricing structures and negotiated costs.
  • Build relationships within the community to boost store sales and identify new retail opportunities on campus.
  • Market bulk orders to the University community and external clients in collaboration with marketing teams.
  • Initiate and manage purchase orders and reorders within the inventory system, ensuring compliance with purchasing policies and maintaining adequate stock levels.
  • Secure necessary approvals for purchase orders exceeding authorization limits.
  • Communicate with suppliers to place orders, manage artwork approvals, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Review and finalize pricing, terms, and conditions with vendors.
  • Negotiate pricing and delivery terms with suppliers.
  • Oversee the selection of merchandise, including vendor and product choices.
  • Manage pricing adjustments for purchased items.
  • Coordinate promotional displays and sales events both on and off campus.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance accuracy, reduce order turnaround times, and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Assist in developing business plans by contributing to sales forecasts and budget planning.
  • Supervise the order fulfillment process, including order entry, administration, and shipping logistics.
  • Create templates and forms to streamline online order processing.
  • Collaborate with buyers to address online product inquiries.
  • Resolve fulfillment challenges and expedite order processing by working with other departments.
  • Propose enhancements to website functionality and backend order management systems.
  • Review and suggest updates to website procedures and training materials.
  • Delegate tasks to staff and analyze product margins and inventory levels.
  • Ensure timely delivery and accurate pricing information for all merchandise.
  • Maintain various documentation, including correspondence and procedural guides.
  • Educate customers on procedures and collaborate with colleagues to create promotional content.
  • Monitor inventory levels throughout the sales cycle.
  • Achieve or surpass sales targets while enforcing store policies.
  • Conduct calculations related to taxes, discounts, and rebates.
  • Ensure that promotional product credits and adjustments are processed accurately.
  • Investigate new product offerings to align with market trends.
  • Attend industry events and trade shows as necessary to gather insights.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies during store operations.
  • Conduct manual inventory audits to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare merchandise for inventory and execute inventory-related tasks as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing guidance and support to team members.
  • Responsible for overseeing one employee.

Qualifications:

  • 2-year Community College diploma in a relevant discipline.
  • Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in the Promotional Products sector.
