Aquatic Facility Supervisor

Job Summary:

The City of Iqaluit is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lifeguard/Swim Instructor to join our Recreation Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our aquatic facility users, while also providing high-quality swim instruction and lifeguarding services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and control activities in the aquatic facility, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all users.
  • Provide high-quality swim instruction and lifeguarding services, exercising mature judgment in carrying out duties.
  • Teach a wide variety of swim programs, including lessons for children and adults.
  • Perform rescues and first aid as required, responding to emergencies in a calm and professional manner.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to maintain a clean and safe aquatic facility.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 16 years of age with a grade 10 education.
  • National Lifeguard Service Award.
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification.
  • First Aid and CPR – C certification.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including daytime, evenings, weekends, and split shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in written and oral form.
  • Ability to perform skills to the NLS standard.

Assets:

  • WHMIS Certification.
  • Pool Operations Level 1 certification.
  • First Aid and CPR Instructor certification.
  • Aquafit Certification (CALA, Canfit, Waterart).
  • NCCP Coaching Level 1 certification.
  • Experience working with a Recreation Management System.

Selection Criteria:

The successful candidate must provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector as well as a satisfactory TB Screening.
