Job Summary:

The City of Iqaluit is seeking a highly skilled Lifeguard and Swim Instructor to join our team. As a key member of our Aquatics Program, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our guests in the pool area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and control activities in the aquatic facility to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for guests.
  • Provide high-quality customer service and maintain a clean and organized pool area.
  • Teach a wide variety of swim programs and perform rescues and first aid as required.
  • Exercise mature judgment in carrying out lifeguarding and swim instructing duties.

Requirements:

  • Must be minimum 16 years of age with a grade 10 education.
  • National Lifeguard Service Award.
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor.
  • First Aid and CPR – C.
  • Vision Requirement: Candidates will, at the discretion of the City of Iqaluit, confirm vision standard of minimum 20/25 corrected.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in written and orally.
  • Ability to perform skills to the NLS standard.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including daytime, evenings, weekends and split shifts.
  • Ability to maintain required certification.

Assets:

  • WHMIS Certification.
  • Pool Operations Level 1.
  • First Aid and CPR Instructor.
  • High Five (PCD).
  • Aquafit Certification (CALA, Canfit, Waterart).
  • NCCP Coaching Level 1.
  • Experience working with a Recreation Management System.
  • Ability to speak and write in English and Inuktitut.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector as well as a satisfactory TB Screening.
