Durham College is in search of a skilled and enthusiastic professional who shares our dedication to quality education and student achievement. The School of Science, Engineering and Information Technology is looking for a part-time professor to instruct Sample Management within the Chemical Laboratory Technician program.
Sample Management (CHEM 2203) is a one-semester course that encompasses both theoretical and practical elements of laboratory operations. Students will explore the intricacies of laboratory systems, focusing on the processes of receiving, organizing, prioritizing, and transmitting information. The course will cover the journey of laboratory samples from collection through analysis and storage, highlighting the significance of process control as a vital aspect of quality management systems in laboratories. The hands-on laboratory component will enhance lecture material, fostering skills related to the sample lifecycle in accordance with industry standards.
Important Note for Part-Time Faculty ApplicantsRecruitment for part-time positions is ongoing and contingent upon course schedules and faculty needs.
Part-time faculty typically teach up to 6 hours weekly, with flexible schedules available Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm and Fridays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Responsibilities of Part-Time Professors at Durham College- Fostering a positive learning atmosphere that respects students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and learning preferences;
- Applying adult education principles to actively engage students in their learning journey;
- Effectively utilizing educational technologies to facilitate learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
- Designing curriculum that incorporates suitable strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
- Ensuring that course and program content remains current and relevant;
- Demonstrating independence and initiative in the role;
- Collaborating effectively with students, program teams, and various internal and external stakeholders.
- A relevant degree accompanied by industry credentials (Master's degree is advantageous).
- A minimum of five years of recent and pertinent work experience.
- Experience in testing laboratories (environmental, water, food industry, or in some cases, the pharmaceutical sector, including herbal, botanical, cosmetic, and personal care products).
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level, with a solid understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and contemporary assessment methodologies.
- Participation in industry-led or community-based applied research is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in utilizing current technologies to enhance student learning and manage grades.
- A proven commitment to lifelong learning.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community partners.
- Familiarity with the Ontario college system.
Preference will be given to candidates with relevant educational qualifications and a demonstrated history of applicable work and teaching experience. Applicants must possess the necessary accreditation or trade certification.
