Durham College is in search of a qualified and dedicated individual who embodies our dedication to excellence and student achievement. The School of Science, Engineering and Information Technology is looking for a part-time instructor to deliver CHEM 1202 – Organic Chemistry Labs.

This course spans one semester and aims to introduce students to fundamental principles of organic chemistry. It is structured to help students understand organic chemical structures, functional groups, nomenclature, and the essential physical properties and reactions of organic compounds. The laboratory segment is crafted to give students hands-on experience with techniques for the handling, isolation, and purification of organic substances safely, while also familiarizing them with specialized organic glassware.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS

Recruitment for part-time positions is ongoing and contingent upon course scheduling and faculty requirements.

Part-time faculty are expected to teach up to 6 hours weekly, with flexible schedules available from Monday to Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm, and Fridays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Responsibilities of Part-Time Professors at Durham College:
  1. Fostering an inclusive learning environment that respects students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning preferences;
  2. Applying adult education principles to actively engage students in their learning journey;
  3. Effectively leveraging educational technologies to enhance learning, manage and record grades, and facilitate hybrid and online courses;
  4. Designing curriculum that incorporates suitable strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
  5. Ensuring that course and program content remains current and relevant;
  6. Demonstrating independence and initiative in their work; and
  7. Collaborating effectively with students, program teams, and a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
  1. A relevant degree complemented by industry credentials (Master's degree is advantageous).
  2. A minimum of five years of recent and pertinent work experience.
  3. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level, with a solid understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and contemporary assessment methodologies.
  4. Experience in industry-led or community-based applied research is considered an asset.
  5. Proficient use of current technologies to facilitate student learning and grade management.
  6. A proven commitment to lifelong learning.
  7. Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community partners.
  8. Familiarity with the Ontario college system.
