The Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Information Technology is looking for a part-time instructor to oversee laboratory sessions for CHEM4131 – Analytical Chemistry II.

This course builds upon the foundations laid in Analytical Chemistry I, exploring various volumetric techniques such as acid/base, redox, and complexation methods. Students will delve into advanced theories and concepts relevant to each analytical method. Additionally, the course introduces instrumental analysis, focusing on both electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques from an analytical viewpoint. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving skills, while the laboratory component prioritizes sound laboratory practices and techniques. Students will be assessed on the accuracy and precision of their analytical results, as well as their ability to document and present findings effectively.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS:

Recruitment for part-time positions is ongoing and contingent upon course scheduling and faculty needs.

Part-time faculty members typically engage in up to 6 hours of teaching per week, with flexible schedules available from Monday to Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm, and Fridays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Key Responsibilities of Part-Time Professors at Durham College:
  1. Fostering an inclusive learning environment that respects students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and learning preferences;
  2. Applying adult education principles to actively involve students in their learning journey;
  3. Utilizing educational technologies effectively to enhance learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
  4. Designing curriculum that incorporates appropriate strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
  5. Ensuring that course and program content remains current and relevant;
  6. Demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently;
  7. Collaborating effectively with students, program teams, and various internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  1. A relevant degree along with industry credentials (a Master's degree is preferred).
  2. A minimum of five years of recent and pertinent work experience.
  3. Experience teaching at the post-secondary level, with a strong understanding of Universal Design for Learning and contemporary assessment methodologies.
  4. Participation in industry-led or community-based applied research is advantageous.
  5. Proficiency in utilizing current technologies to support student learning and grade management.
  6. A proven commitment to lifelong learning.
  7. Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community partners.
  8. Familiarity with the Ontario college system.
