Job Summary

The Royal Mental Health Centre is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse to join our team. As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to individuals with serious mental illness and intellectual disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client Care: Provide professional nursing services to clients, including assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of care plans.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with treatment team members, ensuring client needs are met.
  • Service Coordination: Identify and coordinate provision of services and resources for clients, advocating on their behalf to safeguard their entitlements and rights.
  • Home Visits: Conduct regular home visits to clients, requiring extensive driving in the catchment area.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide assessment and crisis intervention services to clients.
  • Education and Training: Participate in the development and delivery of educational and informational programs for clients, families, service providers, employees, and the public.
  • Medication Administration: Safely prepare and administer medication as per Royal policy and procedure.
  • Health Promotion: Demonstrate ability to recognize and intervene around emergent health problems.
  • Workplace Safety: Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies, and procedures of The Royal.
  • Anti-Racism and Harassment-Free Workplace: Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal's Anti-Racism, Discrimination, and Harassment-Free Workplace policy.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of a recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
  • Registration: Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice, understanding of MHA and relevant legislation, experience working with persons with Dual Diagnosis (Intellectual Disability and Psychiatric Illness), and community mental health experience.
  • Skills: Ability to apply critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, and prioritization skills to nursing duties, knowledge of major mental illness from a bio-psychosocial perspective, and experience in applying the psychosocial principles of rehabilitation and case management.
  • Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional inter-disciplinary team.
  • Workload Management: Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required and input into the workload measurement system on a regular basis.
  • Training and Certification: WHMIS update in the preceding 12 months, CPR Certification within the last 12 months, and completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (preferred).
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer skills required.
  • Transportation: Access to a reliable vehicle for day-to-day operations of the team.
  • Language: English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
Salary Range

$35.36 to $37.05 per hour
