About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Retail Design and Experience to join our team at Arc'teryx. As a key member of our Store Development team, you will be responsible for creating innovative and engaging retail experiences that bring our brand to life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement global retail design strategies that align with our brand vision and values
  • Lead cross-functional teams to design and deliver retail concepts for all D2C channels, including brand stores, Brand+, Alpha, concept stores, shop-in-shop, and more
  • Collaborate with the Brand team to maintain overall design and brand vision, ensuring consistency across all retail touchpoints
  • Present design concepts and strategies to the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring alignment with business objectives
  • Drive project timelines and communicate with cross-functional partners using Smartsheet, ensuring timely delivery and quality results
  • Initiate and review architectural site surveys for design and layout feasibility, making recommendations for budget, operational, and brand appropriateness
  • Prepare project layouts, specifications, millwork, lighting direction, and design details for architectural documentation
  • Direct and manage the production of architectural drawings for accuracy, industry quality standards, building codes, health, and safety regulations
  • Manage external architects on drawing deliverables, completion dates, permitting, and construction documents
  • Review standard project-based shop drawings (storefront, fixtures, signage, brand elements) for accuracy, completeness, and coordination with architectural drawings
  • Work closely with the Director of Construction and PM's during budgeting, bid, and build phases
  • Partner with the Visual Merchandising team to finalize store layouts, assortment strategy, and capacity for each location
Future Opportunities
  • Design new innovative store concepts and solutions that drive business growth and customer engagement
  • Partner with the VM and Brand teams to develop new fixture designs and brand moments that enhance the retail experience
  • Research and implement new innovative finishes and materials that align with our brand values and sustainability goals
  • Develop and implement Store of the Future initiatives that drive business innovation and customer satisfaction
  • Support the development of Global Design Standards that ensure consistency across all retail touchpoints
  • Contribute to the evolution of the Retail Design Playbook, ensuring it remains a valuable resource for the team
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in global retail design, with a proven track record of delivering innovative and engaging retail experiences
  • Experience leading a team of 5+ people, with a strong ability to drive work and ensure deadlines are met
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver innovative design concepts and solutions on time and on budget with minimal direction
  • LEED certification and/or a keen interest in sustainable design practices
  • Strong design and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively
  • Strong 3D rendering skills, with proficiency in CAD drafting using AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, SketchUp, Enscape, and Smartsheet
  • Knowledgeable in material specification, sourcing, and construction methods, with experience in current building codes and ADA requirements in the US, Canada, and EMEA
  • Strong ability to drive work, ensuring deadlines are met, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and learning
  • Excellent verbal and visual communication skills, with the ability to create, understand, and translate three-dimensional concepts into drawings
  • Proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions, with a high level of flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Effectively balances autonomy and collaboration, inspiring breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement

Compensation

A reasonable estimate of the pay range is $146,000 - $182,000 CAD at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and/or training.
