Director, Retail Design and Development

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Retail Design to join our team at Arc'teryx Limited. As a key member of our Retail Design team, you will be responsible for creating innovative and engaging retail experiences that reflect our brand's values and aesthetic.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement retail design concepts and strategies that align with our brand's vision and goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Brand Creative, Visual Merchandising, and Retail Operations, to design and build our stores and create a premium retail experience for our guests.
- Lead the design and coordination of all interior brand elements, including space plans, storefront designs, signage, fixtures, and finishes.
- Drive project timelines and communicate with cross-functional partners using Smartsheet.
- Initiate and review architectural site surveys for design and layout feasibility to make recommendations for budget, operational, and brand appropriateness.
- Prepare project layouts, specifications, millwork, lighting direction, and design details for architectural documentation.
- Direct and manage the production of architectural drawings for accuracy, industry quality standards, building codes, health, and safety regulations.
- Manage external architects on drawing deliverables, completion dates, permitting, and construction documents.
- Review standard project-based shop drawings (storefront, fixtures, signage, brand elements) for accuracy, completeness, and coordination with architectural drawings.
- Partner with Visual Merchandising team to finalize store layouts, assortment strategy, and capacity for each location.
- Design new innovative store concepts and solutions.
- Partner with VM and Brand on new fixture designs and brand moments.
- Design Store of the Future initiatives.
- Support Global Design Standards.
- Support the Retail Design Playbook evolution.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to the rest of the Design Team.
- Bachelor's degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in global retail design.
- Demonstrated ability to create and deliver innovative design concepts and solutions on time and on budget with minimal direction.
- LEED certified and/or a keen interest in sustainable design practices.
- Strong design and presentation skills.
- Strong 3D rendering skills.
- Experienced in current building codes and ADA requirements in both US, CA, and EMEA.
- Proficient in CAD drafting using AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Sketch Up, Enscape, and Smartsheet.
- Highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity.
