Mechanical Engineer Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will operate from Calgary and will deliver project engineering assistance for initiatives in the oil and gas sector, which includes:

  1. Leading and coordinating interdisciplinary teams to produce technical outputs.
  2. Making informed technical decisions and resolving engineering challenges with minimal supervision.
  3. Defining specifications for equipment to be designed or acquired, which may encompass:
    • Rotating machinery
    • Bulk material handling systems
    • Crushing equipment
    • Conveying systems
    • Screening technologies
  4. Drafting scopes of work and construction packages.
  5. Evaluating contractor design documents to ensure alignment with established standards and practices.
  6. Collaborating with other disciplines (e.g., process, reliability, instrumentation, electrical, structural, piping) to coordinate equipment requirements.
  7. Engaging with vendors to clarify project scopes and address requests for information.
  8. Participating in design evaluations as necessary, which may involve model assessments, HAZOP studies, SIL assessments, etc.
  9. Assisting the operations team with updates to operational procedures and equipment isolation plans.
  10. Supporting the reliability team in diagnosing equipment challenges.
Qualifications

Education: A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, along with a P.Eng. designation.

Skills:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proactive and enthusiastic approach.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Oil Sands is preferred, with some background in ore preparation and extraction.
  • Field experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with reliability and asset management is beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel frequently for site visits.
