Job Summary

The City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for providing professional library services in one or more areas, including collection development and management, information services and programs, and library operations and administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement collection development policies and procedures to ensure that our library collections meet the needs of our diverse community.
  • Provide expert reference and research services to patrons, including answering complex research questions and providing guidance on information literacy.
  • Plan and deliver programs and services for children, youth, and adults, including author talks, book clubs, and other community events.
  • Supervise and mentor library staff, providing guidance and support to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge needed to provide excellent customer service.
  • Collaborate with other library staff and external partners to develop and implement library services and programs that meet the needs of our community.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in library and information science from an accredited library school.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a library setting, with a strong background in collection development and management, information services, and program planning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse community groups and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service and community engagement.

Language Requirements

The successful candidate must be fluent in both English and French, with the ability to communicate effectively with patrons and staff in both languages.

Police Record Check

The successful candidate will be required to complete a police record check with the Ottawa Police Service.
