Job Summary

The City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for providing professional library services in one or more areas, including collection development, bibliographic access, and systems support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement collection development policies and procedures to ensure that our library collections meet the needs of diverse communities.
  • Provide expert advice on bibliographic access and inventory control to ensure that our collections are accurately cataloged and maintained.
  • Support the development and maintenance of web-based services and staff training and development programs.
  • Perform supervisory duties, including leading a team of librarians and supporting staff in the delivery of library services.
  • Collaborate with other library staff to develop and implement programs and services that meet the needs of diverse communities.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in library and/or information sciences from an accredited library school.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in collection development, bibliographic access, and systems support.
  • Strong knowledge of library policies and procedures, including collection development and bibliographic access.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service excellence.

Language Requirement

The successful candidate must be fluent in both English and French, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.

Police Record Check

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the Ottawa Public Library's satisfaction.
