Job Summary

**Job Title:** Head, Reference Services

The National Gallery of Canada is seeking a highly skilled and experienced librarian to lead its reference services team. As the Head of Reference Services, you will be responsible for providing expert guidance and support to National Gallery of Canada staff, researchers, and the general public in accessing the Gallery's collections and related resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement reference services policies and procedures to ensure seamless access to the Gallery's collections and resources.

• Provide advanced research assistance and orientation to National Gallery of Canada staff, researchers, and the general public.

• Supervise and mentor a team of reference librarians to ensure excellent customer service and high-quality research support.

• Collaborate with curatorial and research staff to develop and promote online services and resources.

• Develop and maintain the reference collection, ensuring it remains relevant and up-to-date.

• Participate in the development of the Gallery's collections and resources, including the main collection, rare book collection, artists' books and multiples collection, and documentation collection.

Requirements

• Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) degree from an ALA-accredited program.

• Five years of professional experience working as a public service or reference librarian in an academic or research library, preferably an art library.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide range of staff and patrons.

• Familiarity with the major bibliographic tools (print and electronic) and research methods for Art History.

• Strong commitment to public service and a passion for art and culture.
