We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Advisor to join our team at Thompson Rivers University. As a Program Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success of our students in the Faculty of Arts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise students in assigned programs, providing guidance on course selection and program planning.
  • Respond to student inquiries, develop program plans, and advise on admission requirements and transfer credit assessments.
  • Research and make recommendations on admission requirements and transfer credit assessments.
  • Work closely with Associate Deans and Program Coordinators to ensure seamless student support.
  • Conduct degree audits for student graduations and resolve issues related to admissions and advising.
  • Establish rapport with students within the portfolio and take a student-centered approach.
  • Approve and prepare letters of permission for program students to take non-TRU courses.
  • Assist students with program planning for Study Abroad semesters and provide guidance on recognition, transfer credit, and block transfer articulation guidelines.
  • Engage in continuous training and professional development related to assigned programs.
  • Represent TRU - Faculty of Arts at career fairs, trade shows, and recruiting events.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 plus a Bachelor degree from a recognized university in a relevant discipline.
  • Three years related work experience, including a minimum of two years in post-secondary education or a related environment, assessing student's previous education, skills, and background.
  • One year marketing experience, one year working in a fast-paced environment, and one year student advising experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Good organization skills, including the ability to set priorities, multi-task, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret admissions and transfer credit policies and guidelines, recognize exceptions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems.
  • Intermediate research and analytical skills, ability to investigate and listen to solve problems and provide solutions.
  • Aptitude for exacting and precise work, a high degree of accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a widely diverse student population and coworkers.
  • Strong computer skills, including student admissions and transfer credit modules, and MS Office.
Working Conditions
  • Sitting at a desk and computer for long periods of time.
  • General office conditions.
  • Travel may be required.

The salary for this position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
