Job Overview

Under the guidance of the Store Operator/Pharmacy Manager and a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Assistant is tasked with executing specific dispensing responsibilities in accordance with provincial regulations and professional standards.

  • Full-time position with a commitment of 40 hours per week.
  • Typical work hours are Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Key Responsibilities

Dispensing Duties

The Pharmacy Assistant operates under the supervision of a pharmacist, ensuring all dispensing activities comply with provincial laws and best practices.

  • Receive and process written prescriptions from customers.
  • Identify the required medication, select appropriate containers, and accurately measure or pour the medication.
  • Label the prescription container correctly.
  • Ensure that the original medication container, the contents, and the label are verified and initialed by the pharmacist.
  • Contact customers regarding unclaimed prescriptions as necessary.

Operational Tasks

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Maintaining a clean and professional pharmacy environment.
  • Ensuring adequate inventory of pharmacy supplies.
  • Handling pharmacy phone inquiries, directing calls to pharmacists when needed.
  • Referring all medical inquiries and prescription-related questions to a pharmacist.
  • Assisting with billing processes for third-party insurance.
  • Organizing schedules for expired medications.
  • Supporting inventory management efforts.
  • Assisting with the receipt and organization of pharmaceutical deliveries.
  • Keeping informational materials readily available for customers.
  • Managing over-the-counter and non-prescription product sections as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Retail pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Kroll software is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capability to work independently while managing multiple tasks.
  • Professional demeanor with effective communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check due to the sensitive nature of the role.

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 1 year as a Pharmacy Assistant.
