Job Overview
This position reports to the Store Operator/Pharmacy Manager and operates under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist. The primary responsibility is to execute specific dispensing tasks in accordance with provincial regulations and professional standards.
- Full-time position with a commitment of 40 hours per week.
- Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Key Responsibilities
Dispensing Duties
The pharmacy assistant must operate under the supervision of a pharmacist, ensuring all dispensing activities comply with provincial laws and standards.
- Receive and process written prescriptions from customers.
- Identify and retrieve the correct medication, select appropriate containers, and accurately measure or pour the medication.
- Label prescription containers appropriately.
- Ensure that the original medication container, the contents of the prescription container, and the label are verified and initialed by the pharmacist.
- Proactively contact customers regarding unclaimed prescriptions.
Pharmacy Operations
Assist with various tasks as directed by the pharmacy manager or staff pharmacists, including:
- Maintaining cleanliness and professionalism in all pharmacy areas.
- Ensuring adequate inventory of pharmacy supplies.
- Handling incoming pharmacy calls, with the exception of those meant for the pharmacist.
- Directing all inquiries related to prescriptions, drug information, and other medical queries to a pharmacist.
- Supporting third-party billing processes.
- Organizing schedules for outdated medications.
- Assisting with inventory management.
- Helping with the receipt and organization of pharmaceutical orders.
- Keeping consumer information materials readily available.
- Managing over-the-counter and non-prescription product sections as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Preference for candidates with retail pharmacy experience.
- Experience with Kroll software is advantageous.
- Strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
- Capability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Professional demeanor with excellent communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
- Completion of a Criminal Record Check is required due to the sensitive nature of this role.
Experience Required
- Minimum of 1 year as a Pharmacy Assistant.
