Job Title: Academic Instructor

Ontario Tech University is seeking a highly qualified Academic Instructor to teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments.
  • Prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments.
  • Be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated excellent teaching contributions with a proven aptitude for teaching at the pre-service and/or grade 7-12 teaching level.
  • Evidence of successful teaching, including via appropriately challenging inquiry- or problem-based lessons, at the pre-service and/or secondary level.
  • Knowledge of grades 7 - 12 science education in the Ontario context with a focus on secondary sciences.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of core content within the OCT accreditation requirements.
  • A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Evidence of a well-grounded understanding of curricular and pedagogical design, educational research, and assessment that integrates a variety of digital technologies.
  • Evidence of the integration of theories of learning/teaching into instructional practice, including task design and development.
  • Evidence of implementing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Evidence of an ability to critically reflect on one's own professional practice and adapt practices as needed.
  • Evidence of an ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students.
  • Evidence of teaching that fosters reflection, critical thinking, creativity, innovation, problem solving and independence.
  • Openness to new and diverse perspectives for the learning and teaching of the general sciences.
  • Demonstrated evidence of understanding of how (pre-service) teachers learn and develop.
Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a scientific field related to life sciences, biological, chemical, or physical sciences is required.
  • A Master's degree in education or equivalent is required.
  • A member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers is an asset.
  • A PhD in education or a related relevant field of study is an asset.
Experience:
  • Successful experience teaching science at the pre-service and/or grades 7-12 levels.
  • Successful infusion of technologies in practice as purposeful teaching tools for, as, and of learning in the classroom.
  • Demonstrated evidence-based, or research-informed practice.
  • Experience working within an LMS is an asset.
  • Experience teaching in a virtual learning environment is an asset.
