This position entails leading the development and implementation of legal advisory services, strategic projects, policies, and initiatives that promote Métis inherent rights, self-determination, and self-governance.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development and implementation of legal advisory services and strategic projects, policies, and initiatives that align with MNBC's goals and objectives.
- Ensure that all advisory services, projects, and initiatives are legally sound and strategically focused, with a particular emphasis on advancing the recognition and protection of Métis rights.
- Deliver expert advice on complex legal issues and ensure strict adherence to legal standards, while embracing innovative and flexible strategies that align with Métis law.
- Manage a growing team and provide essential legal counsel, while also playing an active role in policy development and tactical negotiations.
- Represent MNBC's interests in wider legal and policy forums, working closely with various stakeholders, such as government agencies and Métis Chartered Communities.
- Oversee the development of detailed legal research and analysis to facilitate informed decision-making, ensuring that MNBC's initiatives are both strategic and legally compliant.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in law, with a focus on Métis rights and self-governance. They will have excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The successful candidate will also have a deep understanding of Métis culture and history, as well as the ability to navigate complex legal issues.
