As the premier hotel in the ACT region, Novotel Canberra boasts 286 guest rooms, 7 meeting venues, and a recently renovated dining and bar area. We are currently seeking a skilled Financial Controller to become a vital part of our team in Canberra.

Position Overview:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the comprehensive and effective functioning of the Finance Department, encompassing Accounts Receivable/Payable, General Ledger, Cash Management, Internal Controls, and Procurement.
  • Manage Payroll processes in collaboration with the offsite payroll processing team.
  • Prepare Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, Budgets, Forecasts, and various financial and management reports as requested by the General Manager or Owners.
  • Conduct regular benchmarking and variance analysis to uncover new growth opportunities and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Mentor and develop a small Finance team, including two direct reports.
  • Ensure timely completion of all legal and tax compliance reporting (e.g., PAYG Return, BAS, Payroll Tax return).
  • Implement and maintain policies and procedures established by Accor, ensuring effective internal controls.
  • Monitor financial systems within the hotel to identify areas for improvement and streamline processes.
  • Collaborate with Department Managers to devise effective strategies for enhancing departmental profitability, providing timely and relevant information.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Experience as a Financial Controller or Assistant Financial Controller in a mid-sized hotel or resort is preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, adept at managing deadlines and maintaining attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated success in optimizing financial processes, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Familiarity with SunSystems Accounting, Opera Cloud PMS, Shiji POS, Zambion T&A, and Purchase Plus is advantageous.
  • We seek an individual who is positive, enthusiastic, and enjoys collaborating with various departments to achieve shared goals.
  • Experience in managing and developing Finance team members is essential.
  • Strong business partnering abilities and a strategic mindset to drive positive outcomes.
