Serving a diverse community of approximately 50,000 students, HWDSB operates across numerous educational institutions and provides essential support to around 8,800 staff members.
In this pivotal role, reporting to the Associate Director of Business Services, the Senior Manager of Financial Services will be a seasoned and proactive leader responsible for enhancing and delivering exceptional customer-centric services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the various functions of Financial Services, which encompasses Accounting, Budgeting, Payroll, Procurement, and Risk Management.
- Utilize subject matter expertise to identify and implement strategic enhancements aligned with the Board's multi-year strategic plan, ensuring adherence to all relevant federal and provincial regulations.
- Direct the efficient management and coordination of the Accounting, Budget, Payroll, Procurement, and Risk Management departments.
- Encourage a culture of high performance, continuous learning, and improvement among a team of business process specialists.
- Act as the Board's financial controller, providing senior-level strategic guidance and analysis concerning financial activities, internal controls, and all necessary financial reporting.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Business Services to offer leadership and expertise to all financial and audit committees.
- Lead technology and change management initiatives to facilitate process enhancements.
Qualifications:
- A degree or post-secondary education in finance, business administration, or a related field.
- A professional accounting designation in good standing (CA, CMA, CGA).
- Business Supervisory Officer qualifications are considered an asset.
- A minimum of ten years of leadership experience in financial management within a publicly funded sector, preferably in K-12 education.
- Strong change management capabilities with a proven track record of motivating and empowering staff.
- Demonstrated skills in strategic planning, organization, analysis, problem-solving, research, negotiation, and facilitation.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including trustees, senior management, school administrators, employee representatives, local municipalities, neighboring school boards, and educational ministries.
- Comprehensive understanding of the interconnected elements within the Board's organization and the role of Financial Services in supporting exemplary instructional programs and services.
