Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager of Financial Accounting, this role is pivotal in managing indirect tax responsibilities, including GST/PST and withholding tax. The Corporate Accountant ensures compliance with all regulatory policies while fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace for all employees.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Calculates monthly GST/PST tax obligations and prepares remittance documentation.
  • Handles the computation of withholding taxes, including monthly for equipment and semi-monthly for Non-Resident entertainers.
  • Conducts annual reconciliations and prepares government submissions for withholding taxes.
  • Provides assistance during GST/PST audits as necessary.
  • Reconciles accounts receivable clearing accounts, including the preparation of invoices and processing of deposits.
  • Manages vendor rebate reconciliations across various locations and facilitates transfers between them.
  • Reconciles intercompany accounts and prepares monthly and quarterly settlements.
  • Oversees small claims provisions, coordinating with the Legal department for accruals and payment releases.
  • Maintains the prepaid schedule and executes amortization entries.
  • Analyzes discrepancies and prepares quarterly comparison reports for accounts receivable and prepaid accounts.
  • Conducts holdback reconciliations and manages transfers to and from the holdback bank account.
  • Prepares consolidated working papers for accounts receivable, prepaid accounts, holdbacks, security deposits, and foreign exchange.
  • Generates compliance reports for related parties and collaborates with the Legal department.
  • Communicates effectively with relevant operational departments.
  • Builds strong professional relationships with guests, employees, management, and auditors.
  • Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and other statutory requirements.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned or directed.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • Post-secondary education in accounting or finance, or a suitable combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Proven ability to meet internal and external customer expectations through timely and effective communication.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with JDE or other accounting software is an asset.
