Position Overview:

The Operating Room Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the surgical environment, ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are readily available for surgical procedures. This position operates under limited supervision and is responsible for maintaining the surgical theatres stocked with essential items, ensuring that case carts are fully equipped with all required clean and disinfected instruments and supplies. The Specialist is tasked with setting up the operating room equipment and supplies according to established surgical preference guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Operating Room Support Specialist, your duties will include:

  • Preparing and organizing surgical supplies and instruments for immediate use by healthcare professionals.
  • Distributing and replenishing patient care supplies while performing quality control checks on equipment.
  • Transporting patients, equipment, lab specimens, and medical records as necessary.
  • Reporting any concerns related to supplies and safety to the Unit Managers.
  • Ensuring that patient care areas and assigned locations are adequately stocked with specialty equipment.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Grade 12 education or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is essential. Candidates should demonstrate fluency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Physical stamina is required, including the ability to walk and stand for an entire 8-hour shift and to handle equipment weighing over 50 lbs. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment and the ability to work independently while taking initiative when necessary. Additionally, the ability to respond to direction and maintain composure during stressful situations is crucial.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in an operating room or surgical setting is highly desirable.
