Job Title: Climbing Instructor

We are seeking a skilled Climbing Instructor to join our team at YMCA Calgary. As a Climbing Instructor, you will be responsible for providing a safe and engaging experience for members and non-members using our Climbing Wall.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide impactful experiences for members and non-members through registered programs and drop-in users.
  • Maintain a safe environment by following policies and procedures to manage risks associated with activities on the Climbing Wall.
  • Lead progressive lesson plans that introduce participants to physical literacy by building fundamental movement skills through climbing programs.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture by supporting an inclusive environment for staff and volunteers.
  • Support the administrative systems required for the operation of the Climbing Wall, including waivers, program schedules, and class lists.
  • Collaborate with members from other teams to provide positive experiences for children and youth through camps, school groups, birthday parties, and more.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and in-services and maintain standards for training and certifications.
Requirements:
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months).
  • Evidence of a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector search.
  • Three professional references.
  • Previous climbing experience.
  • Valid climbing instructor certificate (ACCT and/or ACMG level 1 or higher), or successful completion of YMCA-hosted ACCT level 1 or 2 certification workshop within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Climbing Gym Instructor Level 1 or higher from the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG).
  • Indoor Climbing Wall Practitioner Level 1 or higher accredited by ACCT.
  • Full Challenge Course Practitioner level 2 accredited by ACCT.
  • Previous climbing instructor experience.
