Public Relations Specialist

In this pivotal role, you will assist the Head of External Communications in crafting and implementing both proactive and reactive communication strategies that align with Meridian's vision and values. Your responsibilities will encompass media relations, content creation, issue management, social media engagement, and stakeholder communications. Additionally, you will provide essential internal communication support to various departments, ensuring that our brand narrative is effectively conveyed to both external audiences and internal teams.
The ideal candidate will develop and execute communication strategies that resonate with key stakeholders, driving business objectives and reinforcing our commitment to our Members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Media Relations and Monitoring
- Continuously evaluate the media landscape to identify trends and opportunities for enhancing Meridian's visibility.
- Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries, managing responses and coordinating approvals.
- Maintain an updated external communications calendar to track ongoing initiatives.
- Facilitate media training and prepare briefing materials for executive spokespeople.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive media lists and resources for internal use.
- Oversee daily media monitoring, ensuring timely reporting on coverage and metrics.
- Manage the budget for media-related activities, tracking all associated costs.
- Compile and analyze media coverage reports on a quarterly basis, collaborating with team members for comprehensive insights.
- Content Development
- Create and regularly update an annual plan for external corporate communications across various channels.
- Draft press releases, key messages, social media content, and other communication materials.
- Coordinate the distribution of media releases and ensure proper posting on relevant platforms.
- Produce internal communication materials, including articles and engagement resources.
- Conduct research and interviews to develop impactful communication content.
- Consultation and Relationship Management
- Collaborate with the Head of External Communications to provide strategic counsel to business partners.
- Offer internal communication support to various departments, ensuring alignment with corporate initiatives.
- Assist in communications related to major organizational changes and initiatives.
- Engage with business partners to proactively develop communication strategies.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Craft messaging and outreach materials to enhance Meridian's profile among stakeholders.
- Gather and package data for stakeholder communications.
- Implement strategies to reach influential audiences effectively.
- Reputation Management
- Identify potential issues and opportunities to safeguard and enhance Meridian's reputation.
- Contribute to the development of awards and recognitions that highlight Meridian's achievements.
- Prepare messaging for potential issues to protect the organization's reputation.
- Project Coordination
- Support the production and distribution of corporate communications across various channels.
- Coordinate communications for corporate events and social media initiatives.
- Manage vendor relationships and requirements for communication projects.
- Assist with budget and invoice management within the communications department.
- Oversee event management for key organizational events.
Qualifications:
- A degree in communications or a related field, complemented by a post-graduate certificate in public relations.
- 2-3 years of experience in corporate communications or public relations.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- A proactive self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment.
- Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.
- Familiarity with content management best practices and media monitoring tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic HTML knowledge.
- Understanding of the financial services sector is an asset.
- Knowledge of SEO and web analytics is a plus.
