JOB DESCRIPTION | Finance Operations Manager

The Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) is dedicated to promoting justice and equality across Canada. Established in 1996, the CRRF focuses on fostering knowledge and expertise to combat racism and all forms of racial discrimination within Canadian society.

The Finance Operations Manager is essential in overseeing and managing the financial functions of the organization. This role provides support to the Director of Finance in areas such as financial forecasting, budgeting, and reporting, while ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and internal policies. A significant component of this position involves offering expert leadership and direction in procurement and contracting processes. The Finance Operations Manager will act as a crucial resource for staff, delivering specialized knowledge and strategic insights into contracting practices. This role is vital for strategic financial decision-making and optimizing procurement activities, thereby enhancing the overall financial efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.

Position Overview

Job Title: Finance Operations Manager
Job Classification: Non-Unionized
Employment Status: Full-time contract
Hours: 35 hours per week
Work Location: Hybrid work setting
Salary: Competitive annual salary.

CRRF provides a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Planning:
    • Assist in the execution of financial strategies and plans
    • Prepare financial reports, budgets, and statements
  • Budget Oversight:
    • Support the annual budget preparation
    • Monitor budget performance and suggest adjustments as necessary
    • Ensure alignment of budgets with organizational objectives.
  • Financial Operations, Compliance, and Auditing:
    • Assist in daily financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable.
    • Oversee payroll operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of salaries, deductions, and tax compliance
    • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions
    • Review reconciliations of bank accounts and credit card statements for accuracy
    • Assist in the preparation of mandatory financial reports
    • Analyze accounting data and generate financial reports or statements
    • Support the preparation of annual audit schedules and documents
    • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards
  • Information Systems Coordination:
    • Manage information technology projects within the Finance Department
  • External Relations:
    • Coordinate with banks and investment managers for smooth account administration;
    • Act as a liaison with external technical experts for IT support;
    • Serve as the main contact for property maintenance issues
  • Strategic Financial Planning:
    • Collaborate with senior management on strategic financial initiatives
    • Participate in the development and execution of financial strategies to meet organizational goals
  • Procurement and Contract Management:
    • Work closely with the Director of Finance to manage financial distributions and grant-related payments
    • Ensure timely processing of financial transactions and grant payments
    • Provide procurement policy guidance to departmental directors and teams
    • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and monitoring contracts for regulatory compliance
    • Maintain comprehensive records of financial, procurement, and contract activities
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to policy development
  • Additional Duties:
    • Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned
    • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team
Qualifications:
  • A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Canada.
  • Preferred 5+ years of experience in accounting and finance, ideally in the non-profit sector.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage 50)
  • Experience with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other digital tools.
  • Strong communication, recordkeeping, and organizational skills
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting and manage multiple deadlines.
