Registered Nurse - Oncology Clinic

The Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) is seeking a dedicated Clinic Nurse to provide exceptional nursing care in our Oncology Clinic.

This position involves delivering, coordinating, and implementing comprehensive nursing services, including patient assessments, educational support for patients and families, and health promotion initiatives tailored to Oncology/Hematology/BMT patients and their families, in alignment with established protocols and standards at PHSA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather and document comprehensive health care information for patients and their families, ensuring accurate records of nursing observations, interventions, educational efforts, and evaluations of care.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute direct patient care activities within the clinic, utilizing appropriate nursing skills and techniques for pediatric Oncology/Hematology/BMT patients and their families.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary health care professionals to strategize, implement, and assess patient care within the Oncology/Hematology/BMT environment.
  • Initiate and coordinate assessments and referrals post-assessment, addressing inquiries from patients, families, and health care team members while liaising with diagnostic and community health services.
  • Provide education to patients, families, the public, and health care professionals as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Valid CPR Certification.
  • Recent nursing experience in a relevant clinic setting, including at least one year of experience in client education.
  • Certification in Chemotherapy Level I.
  • Central Line Certification.

  • Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary care team and serve as a nursing resource.
  • Proficiency in operating relevant medical equipment.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
  • Commitment to understanding and adhering to legislative obligations and provincial commitments related to Indigenous Peoples and health care.
  • A strong asset would be knowledge of the socio-economic, political, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with anti-racism and cultural safety initiatives.
