The Oncology Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) plays a pivotal role in leading care delivery within specialized clinical domains. Collaborating closely with the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Leader, Assessment Module Leader, Nurse Educators, and the Professional Practice Leader - Nursing, the CRN oversees nursing practices, offering clinical leadership, mentorship, and support to team members. The CRN serves as a vital clinical resource for nursing staff, nursing students, and the interdisciplinary team, assisting in the provision of high-quality care and adherence to quality assurance standards for a designated patient demographic.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate certification courses on topics including Chemotherapy administration, IV therapy, Central Venous Catheter management, and perioperative/post-anesthesia nursing in brachytherapy, utilizing self-learning modules, written materials, and didactic presentations, while supervising clinical practicums. Organize and conduct orientation sessions for newly hired nursing staff, presenting essential clinical skills, practice tools, and relevant information. Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Leader, Assessment Module Leader, and Professional Practice Leader to identify individual learning needs of nurses and implement tailored plans to achieve desired competency levels in knowledge, skills, attitudes, and clinical judgment. Engage in competency-based education and preceptorship pathways, employing strategies such as role modeling, coaching, and teaching. In partnership with Professional Practice, develop and evaluate instructional materials in written and electronic formats, ensuring content is accurate and effective. Contribute to the performance appraisal process for nursing staff by providing insights to the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Leader and Assessment Module Leader regarding individual performance. Offer clinical leadership and consultation to clinical staff and students in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care, ensuring compliance with practice standards and fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals. Assist the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Leader and Assessment Module Leader in planning, developing, and evaluating patient care, providing input on clinical practices and the formulation of new or revised policies, procedures, and standards. Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Leader and Professional Practice to coordinate the introduction of new skills and procedures, arranging in-service sessions and orientations as necessary.Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). A minimum of three years of recent clinical experience in a relevant program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Required Skills
Proven ability to supervise, lead, and direct the work of others. Demonstrated capability to teach, mentor, and coach nursing staff. Expertise in providing clinical care to oncology patients within the designated area. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with diverse individuals.
