The Oncology Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) plays a pivotal role in overseeing care delivery within specialized clinical domains. Collaborating closely with the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Leader, Assessment Module Leader, Nurse Educators, and the Professional Practice Leader - Nursing, the CRN supervises nursing practices and provides essential clinical leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff. The CRN serves as a vital clinical resource for nurses, nursing students, and the interdisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care and adherence to quality assurance standards for a specific patient demographic.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitate certification courses on topics such as Chemotherapy administration, IV therapy, Central Venous Catheter care, and perioperative nursing, utilizing self-learning modules, written materials, and didactic presentations while overseeing clinical practicums. Organize and conduct orientation sessions for newly hired nursing staff, covering essential clinical skills, practice tools, and relevant information. Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Leader, Assessment Module Leader, and Professional Practice Leader to assess individual nurses' educational needs and implement tailored plans to enhance their competencies in knowledge, skills, attitudes, and clinical judgment. Engage in competency-based education and preceptorship pathways, employing mentoring strategies such as role modeling, coaching, and teaching. In partnership with Professional Practice, develop and evaluate instructional materials in various formats, ensuring content accuracy and relevance. Contribute to the performance appraisal process for nursing staff by providing insights to the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Leader and Assessment Module Leader regarding individual performance. Offer clinical leadership and consultation to clinical staff and students in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care, ensuring compliance with established standards and fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals. Assist the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Leader and Assessment Module Leader in planning, developing, and evaluating patient care by providing input on clinical practices and the formulation of new or revised policies, procedures, and standards in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Work alongside the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Leader and Professional Practice to coordinate the introduction of new skills and procedures, as well as arrange in-service training sessions and orientations as necessary.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). A minimum of three years of recent clinical experience in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Attributes

Proven ability to provide supervision, leadership, and direction to nursing staff. Demonstrated capability to teach, mentor, and coach colleagues effectively. Expertise in delivering clinical care to oncology patients within the designated area. Strong oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills and conflict resolution abilities. Proficient in team building and collaboration. Critical thinking and problem-solving aptitude. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks in partnership with others. Familiarity with research processes and methodologies. Physical capability to perform the duties associated with the position. Proficient in operating relevant equipment. Commitment to fostering reconciliation and understanding Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racism principles.
