As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse is dedicated to delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing cancer treatment. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including assessment, intervention, symptom management, treatment coordination, and patient education, all in alignment with established care standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct nursing care to oncology patients by conducting thorough assessments, reviewing medical histories, and creating individualized care plans that address the unique needs of each patient, considering their psychosocial and cultural backgrounds.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, their families, and interdisciplinary team members to formulate and adjust treatment plans based on ongoing evaluations of the patient's condition.
  • Administer prescribed medications, injections, blood products, and IV fluids, while closely monitoring patient responses and making informed decisions regarding physician consultations when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting health histories, nursing assessments, communications, and evaluations of care.
  • Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges in accordance with organizational policies and protocols.
  • Assist patients in understanding their care plans and refer them to additional healthcare resources as needed.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff by adhering to safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current registration as an RN.
  • Valid CPR (Level C) certification.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant clinical experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong clinical knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.
  • Proficiency in utilizing clinical technology to enhance patient care.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize patient care efficiently.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties required of the position.
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting Indigenous rights and reconciliation efforts.
